Hotel Rooms all gone

I have just found out I will be able to attend Adepticon. (My wife's health was an issue that may have precluded it, but has been brought under control). So I call up the Hotel hoping to get a room. Well of course I knew that more than likely there wouldn't be any. So I call and ask and of course there isn't any. So I ask what would the regular rate be and low and behold it is $173 + tax for the basic room. I politely ask if there is any way I can get the convention rate and am told rather snootily that they can not do it and that they are a 4 star hotel and don't have to do things like this. I mention that there is no way I will be booking a room at $173 and am told fine. I have to ask before I hang up - you would rather have an empty room than give me one at $100 and am told yes, rather rudely. Almost makes me want to not set foot in the Crowne Plaza........

LOL A 4 Star Hotel? The Crowne Plaza is a Holiday Inn with delusions of grandeur. I'm staying at the Wyndham 2 miles away for about the same price. Mahalo

The Marriott was too small and there was a high amount of risk associated with tent for the Fantasy side. One good storm and the Fantasy side would have been no more.

Simply put - we outgrew the space. We needed more ballroom square footage - in particular to accommodate the growth rate of the Fantasy events. They have spent two years in a tent outside the hotel proper. We also wanted additional space in order to host a number of non-tournament/Specialist Games events and we simply did not have that room at the Marriott.

Looking at the weather this weekend I think the Fantasy players will be glad they are indoors. Perhaps not so glad to be within sight distance or possibly earshot of their bolter-firing cousins, but the new space will be a huge improvement.

Changing venues was no easy task at all. Hank, Jeff, Greg and everyone else really had to reinvent the wheel a few times to get us back up to speed with the past couple of years.

Historical note: The Crown Plaza (back in the Holiday Inn days) was the original home of AdeptiCon back when we were partnered with The Ides of March.
